      Columbia's First "Dinner in White" Pop-up Picnic

      Based on the incredible "Diner en Blanc" dinner series that is sweeping major cities around the globe....116 Espresso and Wine Bar is excited to present our own "Dinner in White" Pop-up Picnic Series. This kick-off event, which will support a local Columbia Arts group, is designed to be a fun and fantastic way to meet new people, celebrate the arts, enjoy gourmet food and wine, and be part of a spectacle!


      Here's the set-up:

      1) We will keep the location of the event a long as possible....and if you have purchased your tickets from eventbrite, you will receive an email on the day of the event with the exact location!

      2) 116 will provide a gourmet French "picnic" themed meal featuring local ingredients, great wine, and live entertainment. We will arrive early and have tables dressed with linens and white chairs. We will be serving three courses family or "picnic" style to each table and we encourage you to meet, great, and eat with your new friends!

      3) You are responsible...that's right you have work to do too....for bringing your own dishes, silverware, glasses, and of course yourselves decked out in your finest white attire. (Yes we know about the rules with white and labor day and we are doing it anyway...we like to make a scene!) We'd suggest partnering with some friends and making a game out of bring china...they bring glasses...etc...and get creative! Our staff will come through at the end of the night to wash all of your items for you before you leave.

      4) There are more surprises planned throughout the night and we will tease hints as the event approaches.

      5) $40 of each ticket will be donated to a the Columbia Museum of Art!

      -         Duo of Wil-Moore Farms Chicken: Herbs de Provence Marinated Fried Chicken Leg and Smoked Chicken Thigh stuffed with Chicken Liver Mousse

      This comes from a producer in Wissembourg, France which is in the northeast corner of France right by the German


      border. The specialize in value sparkling wines. This is primarily Pinot Blanc and has some Chardonnay in the


      blend as well as a few native german varietals that make up a small portion of the blend. These provide more of the


      aromatics and fruit. This being a direct import very little is known about the specifics.




      100% Colombard


      Montgravet comes from vineyards located in the Gascony region, near the city of Toulouse in the South West of France.


      The climate combines the Oceanic and Mediterranean influences, which brings enough sun and humidity to grow rich,


      concentrated and ripe grapes. Close to the producers, and in order to source the best vineyards, our winemaker has found some


      amazing "terroirs" spread on hills. These hills are called "Mont" in French. So as a tribute to the terroir from where the wine


      comes from we have named in Montgravet, "Gravet" being the name of an oval shaped rock commonly found in the area.




      80% Grenache/ 15% Syrah/ 5% Mourvedre


      The Autards feel privileged to have inherited a domaine in which the plantations of different cepages are perfectly adapted to


      the soil types - ranging from galets roulets, pebble and clay, and sandy-clay - in their various parcels. They aim to get the most


      out of each variety by vinifying separately and then blending judiciously. The grapes are destalked and fermentation takes place


      in stainless steel tanks with only the native yeasts present on the grape’s skins. After the malolactic fermentation, the wines


      are transferred to barriques for aging, 45 year-old vines. Paul Autard has managed the family Domaine since he was 17, with a


      philosophy of naturally expressing the terroirs of their superb vineyards in the heart of Chateauneuf du Pape. The aging cellar is a


      massive, vaulted cave cut into sandstone rock, housing the domaine’s barriques.




      85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc


      Jean-Claude Berrouet is a French winemaker. World-renowned in his field and in Merlot production, he is best known for his


      work with Jean Pierre Moueix at the famous Chateau Petrus and Dominus Estate, also owned by the Moueix family. The Oakland


      Tribune considers Petrus under Berrouet to be "arguably one of the world's most revered and most expensive wines."He is known


      for making wines of subtlety and nuance that are considered the counterpoint of Michel Rolland. Berrouet retired formally from


      winemaking in 2007, but with the help of his son, Jean-François Berrouet, he has continued work as technical consultant for


      wineries in Israel, Argentina, China and France.The Petrus Estate, as of 2010, it now run by Jean Pierre Moueix's son Jean-


      François Moueix, and Berrouet's other son, Olivier Berrouet, is Director of Winemaking. Berrouet also owns the 6 hectare Vieux


      Chateau St-Andre in Montagne St Emilion, which he runs with his son Jean-François.

Thousand of people, dressed all in white, and conducting themselves with the greatest decorum, elegance, and etiquette, all meet for a mass “chic picnic” in a public space.   Over the course of an evening, the diners enhance the function and value of their city's public space by participating in the unexpected. Beyond the spectacle and refined elegance of the dinner itself, guests are brought together from diverse backgrounds by a love of beauty and good taste. Le Dîner en Blanc recalls the elegance and glamour of court society, and diners engage one another knowing they are taking part in a truly magical event.       Launched by François Pasquier and his close friends 25 years ago, Paris’ Dîner en Blanc now brings together over 10,000 people each year in some of the most prestigious locations throughout the French capital.   In the summer of 1988, Pasquier had just returned to Paris after a few years abroad and held a dinner party to reconnect with friends. So many wished to attend that he asked them to convene at Bois de Boulogne dressed in white, so as to be recognizable to one another. Each attendee was also asked to bring a friend. The evening was such a hit that guests wanted more friends to join-in the following year and thus was born the concept of Dîner en Blanc.
      In June 1991, four years after the event’s debut, the founding group of friends decided to organize their Dîner in one of the French capital’s most beautiful locations, Pont des Arts, in the heart of Paris (a first). Knowing fully well that local authorities would never allow such an event to take place there, keeping the location a secret until the very last minute was crucial to the success of the event.
      Following in his François Pasquier’s footsteps, one of his sons, Aymeric Pasquier, moved to Montreal and kept the family tradition going when he came together with friends to hold the first Dîner en Blanc® in August of 2009. In 2011, Aymeric partnered-up with Sandy Safi to launch the first American Dîner en Blanc in New York. The United States held its first Dîner en Blanc® in New York on August 25th, 2011. That evening, 1,200 diners (selected from over 30,000 hopefuls) celebrated outdoors at a yet-to-be-disclosed location amid live music and dancing, with festive white balloons and sparklers. Guests, dressed in elegant white, brought their own epicurean feasts, tables, chairs, glasses, silver and white napery.
      Aymeric Pasquier and Sandy Safi then came together to create Dîner en Bland International, a Dîner en Blanc® organization that would promote the history and philosophy of this event through hosts worldwide, and create an international network of diners and Dîner en Blanc® enthusiasts. With over a dozen cities having joined the Dîner en Blanc® family in 2012what began (and remains in Paris) as a “friends and word-of-mouth only” event has grown into an international epicurean phenomenon across five continents. Though the technology behind the event may have changed over the years, the principles fuelling this fantastic event have not; diners continue to gather at a secret location with the sole purpose of sharing a high-quality meal with good friends at the heart of one of the city’s most beautiful locations. Dîner en Blanc International, based in Montreal, is responsible for developing this secret posh picnic in nearly 40 cities by the end of 2013. Each event is headed by passionate local organisers whom fell in love with the concept and wanted to bring it to their city and add their local flair, yet respecting the event’s core values all the while. 
      By 2014, the Diner en Blanc worldwide members will be linked within our software. Members will be able to register for their city’s event and to any city in the world!  With over 100 000 members across the world, a new social network is starting to flourish, uniting people of varied ethnic and social backgrounds, all sharing a common taste for delightful and beautiful things.
