      EVENT DETAILS
      Feast of the Hunters' Moon

The Tippecanoe County Historical Association of Lafayette, Indiana, in cooperation with the Tippecanoe County Parks and Recreation Department, will be sponsoring the 46th annual Feast of the Hunters’ Moon on October 5-6. Hours are Saturday 9am to 5pm E.D.T. and Sunday 9am to 4pm E.D.T.  The “Feast” derives its name from the moon cycles of the Miami Indian calendar, and is held annually along the banks of the Wabash River in the fall. Considered by many to be the “must see” event of the year, the Feast represents the time of homecoming, feasting, dancing and celebrating from the earliest days of historic Fort Ouiatenon (1717-1791), the first fortified European settlement in Indiana.

The Feast will have many colorful stories to tell, related through the pageantry of the recreated military units, period artisans, craftspeople, musicians, voyageur canoeists, civilian encampments, and Native American cultural presentations about the time period portrayed.  The event is a family-oriented one, with activities for children including candle dipping, butter churning, costume try-on, bead crafts and an area where they can learn to trade for goods like their 18th century counterparts did!

Over 40 different recreated period foods, including buffalo, Scottish meat pies, and pork chops, will put the “feast” in the Feast! Food booths are run by area non-profit organizations as fundraisers for their worthy community projects.

Education is a strong focus of the event.  Seven different arenas and stages plus numerous locations on the 30 acres of festival grounds feature outstanding performances by musicians, interpreters, military re-enactors and Native American groups.
