MCCL Summit "Grouping & Regrouping With Teachers Sharing the Load" May 7, 2018

The Maine Cohort for Customized Learning is partnering with Thomas College's Center for Innovation in Education to provide several one-day summits in the 2017-2018 school year. Our summit format provides participants an opportunity to share and collaborate in an effort to problem solve and create new methods and action steps that help address our largest implementation challenges. Grouping learners only by their age, and expecting them all to learn the same thing, describes our assembly-line, industrial-age learning system. Our learners deserve to learn in systems that send the message that it is "OK" to learn at different paces and in different ways. There are a variety of ways we can group and regroup learners that send this message and also help teachers manage this level of customization. Our summit participants will explore the different methods for grouping and regrouping learners in ways that allow teachers to share the responsibilities for meeting every learner's needs without creating a traditional ability tracking system. We will share the successes and challenges that schools have experienced in their efforts to create a culture focused on learning in a proficiency-based, customized learning system. Come with a team from your district/school (cohort & non-cohort schools) or as an individual, and help us problem solve and identify strategies and methods that help support educators as they continue to design the Ideal Learning Experience for each and every one of their learners. Teachers, Administrators, Instructional Support Staff, Consultants and Learning Specialists are invited to join us for this important conversation. Participants will share learnings, gain insights, network with others, and create action steps that will support efforts to transform their systems. FAQs Daily Schedule: 8:30 - 3:00 6.5 Contact hours will be provided. Please contact Linda Laughlin at lindaflaughlin@gmail.com if you have any questions.
