Day of Service - Blueberry Cultivation

Join us on Friday, October 18, 2013, in Tuskegee, Alabama for a day of service at Shady Grove Road Blueberry Patch.  This historic farm is home to over 6,000 blueberry bushes.  Tuskegee farmer Josie Gbadamosi is the owner and operator of 2.5 acreage blueberry farm.   She is in need of assistance in pruning and cultivating the bushes to maximize production.

Participants in the day of service will meet at Shady Grove Road Blueberry Patch on Friday morning from 8:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m.  Instruction will be provided on pruning, cultivation, propagation, blueberry plant management, and regenerative agriculture. Participants will also learn the history of Shady Grove Road Blueberry Farm.  Each participant will take home at least one bare-root blueberry bush or cutting to begin their own fruit orchard.  Tools will be distributed during the workshop. (Please note that blueberries are not in season this time of year.)
