      Family Employment Awareness Training (FEAT), Oct. 18, 2013

      Building the Dream of Employment

       FEAT, Building the Dream of Employment, you will learn about : (a) FEAT and state policy supporting employment of persons with disabilities; (b) different possibilities for employment and the success stories of Kansans with disabilities; (c) the family/parent role in supporting employment; and, (d) school and healthcare transition. This all-day training will include lecture, small-group activities, a youth/young adult break-out session on brainstorming your passion and job development, and an afternoon of rotating small groups with the following guests from your community: (a) employees with disabilities working in integrated and competitive environments; (b) employers and managers who support employees with disabilities; and, (c) entrepreneurs with disabilities.

      Identifying and Accessing Kansas Employment Resources

       

      FEAT, Identifying and Accessing Kansas Employment Resources, you will learn about: (a) on-the-job support resources for employees and employers; (b) federal and state funding, services, benefits, programs, and organizations related to employment; and, (c) federal and state antidiscrimination laws. This all-day training will include lecture, small-group activities, a youth/young adult break-out session on self-advocacy and disability disclosure, and an afternoon of rotating small groups with guests from your community representing various: (a) funding sources (e.g., cash assistance, grants, waivers, work incentives); (b) service programs and agencies (e.g., rehabilitation services, workforce centers); and, (c) information organizations (e.g., business start-up, assistive technology).

       The training is from 9:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. (both days)

      Lunch and snacks, training materials, and a resource CD will be provided to attendees.
