      EVENT DETAILS
Sitka Cross Trail Classic Marathon & Half Marathon

Come and join us for the great Alaskan full and half marathon to be held in beautiful Sitka by the Sea formally known as Alaska's Russian Capitol. Every mile promises spectacular views, new and exciting terrain, lush green forests and pristine beauty. This experience will be a memory maker for sure!

Sitka is Alaska's hidden gem, off the beaten path, landscaped with majestic snow capped mountains, abundance of wildlife and some of the friendliest folks on earth.

The race begins on Japonski Island at the Sitka Rocky Gutierrez Airport. The first two miles enjoy spectalcular views of the Russian Chuch, downtown Sitka, hidden harbors and rugged mountain tops lined with snow as you pass over the O'Connell Bridge.

Continue on into a racing experience like you have never experienced before! As you enter the Sitka National HIstorical Park and all the lush thick forest the park has to offer while hidden totem poles nestle amongst the trees you can't help but notice the unexplained beauty. As you make your way thru the park's wooded trails observe the abundance of bald eagles, waterfowl, mink and river otter. On occasions brown bear have been known to enter the park during this time of year while feeding on salmon in the stream. No worries, they are there to feed on fish!

Sitka has one of the most amazing trail systems and we are fortunate to travel along miles of soft surface trails that lead us into deep rich rainforests that are sure to take your breath away. Our most important goal is to enhance and preserve the unique balance of living a healthy and acitve life style while interacting thoughtfully and competently within our enviroment. Our trails that we use are our most precious resource and we believe that for every participant there is a nescessary obligation to "to give back to the trails." It is important to continue this yearly event as a traditon with positvie image and respect towards others who use our trial systems in Sitka. The route is will marked, safe and will have aid stations periodically thru out the race.

As you travel the last few miles along the coast line take notice of the incredable view of Sitka's snow capped volcano, better known as Mount Edgecumbe. The race will end on Lincoln Street in downtown Sitka where enthusiastic volunteers and spectators will be cheering you on all the way to the finish line as the festival will kick off with the Seafood Parade!

This event is held in conjunction and partnership with ever-growing Sitka Seafood Festvial August 1-3, 2013. Visit sitkaseafoodfestival.org
