Description
The Seattle Center is sprawling park, arts and entertainment facility located in the city's Lower Queen Anne neighborhood, and situated on the site originally used for the 1962 Seattle World's Fair, or 'Century 21.'
Indeed, one of the Center's many popular attractions is the International Fountain which boasts over 20 water spouts and which was initially built for that original Seattle World's Fair back in '62. The iconic Space Needle and the Kobe Bell are two further notable attractions and Seattle landmarks which find their home in the Seattle Center.
Performing Arts and Athletics form a major part of what The Seattle Center is about: The Seattle Repretory Theatre, The Center House Theatre (home to the Seattle Theatre Company), The Seattle Children's Theatre and McCaw Hall (home to The Seattle Opera and The Pacific Northwest Ballet) all operate within its grounds. Sports fans will recognize The Seattle Center as the vicinity surrounding KeyArena - home to the Seattle University Redhawks men's basketball team. The WNBA's Seattle Storm also play there.
In addition to the theatrical and sporting events which make up a large portion of the Seattle Center schedule, the impressive facility is also regularly used to accommodate large-scale festivals such as Festal, Winterfest, Gay Pride PrideFest, Seattle International Children's Festival, and Bite of Seattle.
