Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) help will be offered again at the Saratoga Springs Public Library on weekend afternoons (12-3) during the tax season, starting February 1, 2014 through April 13, 2014. This is a no-cost service for taxpayers whose incomes are $51,000 or less. Numbered tickets can be picked up on the day of service only, and are limited in number. Please bring social security cards and all appropriate official documentation necessary, such as picture IDs, W-2s, 1099s, receipts, statements, etc. The program serves those who have difficulty with tax preparation and may not be able to afford professional help, VITA volunteers can inform taxpayers about special tax credits for which they may qualify such as Earned Income Tax Credit, Child Tax Credit, and Credit for the Elderly or the Disabled. This program does not prepare business returns. The Saratoga County Volunteer Tax Assistance Program is sponsored by the IRS and the NYS Department of Taxation and Finance. There are a variety of locations throughout the Capital District area if the Library's service does not meet your needs.
