
Carbon Economy Series: Three-day seminar on creating healthy soil organically. Learn how to sequester more carbon and replenish the biology of the earth’s soil membrane with natural practices.
Compost Contest: Santa Fe’s green thumbs are invited to prove if their compost is competitive during a compost contest. Entries will be inspected under a microscope to identify the different kinds of bacteria, fungal mass, protozoa and nematodes in compost samples. Cash prizes will be awarded. Who: Seminars will be presented by soil biologist and microbiologist Elaine Ingham, chief scientist at the Rodale Institute. Rodale is a nonprofit organization dedicated to pioneering organic farming through research and outreach. Ingham was previously president of Soil Foodweb, Inc., which helped farmers worldwide to grow more resilient crops by understanding and improving their soil.

• Sat., April 14, 9:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.: Introduction to Soil Foodweb
• Sun., April 15, 9:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.: Soil Foodweb and Compost Tea Technology
Where: Jemez Rooms, Santa Fe Community College, 6401 Richards Ave.
Cost: Friday seminar: $10; Saturday or Sunday: $175 each. Attend all three: $300.
