    It's interesting how "our" rights affect the smokers rights... I'm sorry but not wanting to partake of their smoke isn't causing them any harm, they can go somewhere else to smoke, their smoke does infringe on "my" rights... my rights to not have to breathe in their stinky, nauseating and unhealthy smoke and have it stink up my clothes etc. Just so club owners know... it does effect your sales... I won't go to a venue anymore that caters to the stinkies... you can have them, I will go somewhere else for my entertainment, there are venues out there that give everyone the choice to breathe fresh air so those will be the ones that get my money. Do you like the way your club smells??? Even smokers will admit that it smells aweful! There are other clubs out there similar to In the Venue... their loophole to having a smoke free ? environment ...they have their smoke area right off the main floor with the door wide open so all the stench comes in to where you are anyway, yeah, that's a brilliant idea, but it comes right down to they don't give a **** about you, they only care about what brings them revenue... they are only hurting themselves because there are people like us that won't give them our money, we are willing to put it in the pockets of those that respect our feelings... if smokers can't go without for a couple hours then they can go outside to pollute with doors shut. Keep standing up for your convictions, there are more than you think feeling the same way as you, when clubs start hurting maybe they will re-think their stupidity.

    Last night I went to "In the Venue" to see the band Devotchka. Normally this would have been one of the most exciting indoor events for me of the year. I have traveled all over the western states to see them play. To my great regret I discovered that indoor smoking is still legal in Utah... according to the owner. Several of my friends were escorted out of the concert for voicing their opinions to the bouncers. If you have been to the local concert hall you know there is no distinction between the upper balcony and the rest of the venue in the winter. The owner claims that this area is considered "outside" and therefore the newly established law does not apply. Funny how the air on the balcony is the same air that is trapped in the building and being breathed by the the fans below. My girlfriend has asthma, funny how she too was so excited to see this band, funny how she was only willing to go because finally there wouldn't be any smoke to jeopardize her ability to breathe. Funny that club owners cater to the 12% of smoking Utahans in an effort to keep business lively, when business might just increase not just from the non-smoking ( but still drinking crowd) but possibly even from the non-drinking crowd. I know; treachery right!? How dare I claim such a thing? I will never see another band/event here. I will discourage anyone I can reach from participating with any event that happens here. Speak up people! Remember its the majority that rules. Only 12% of Utahans smoke.
