Local Historic Event Marks 500 Years of Florida!
The “Ponce de Leon Festival” will be held March 23rd and 24th, 2013 at Laishley Park in Punta Gorda, Florida. This event will commemorate 500 years since the first Europeans explored Florida and Ponce de Leon himself landed in Charlotte Harbor in the spring of 1513. In addition to the festival, there will be a commemorative waterfront landing by the Royal Order of the Ponce de Leon Conquistadors and the first ever “Festival of Flowers” parade in downtown Punta Gorda.
The parade will kick-off a weekend of festivities starting Saturday morning in downtown Punta Gorda, Florida. The parade will lead the crowd to The Ponce de Leon Festival, which is a free-to-the-public event. Attendees will get a chance to meet Juan Ponce De Leon and his Conquistadors, take pictures, and get autographs with the Conquistadors. There will be live entertainment, vendors, plus games for the children, and many other exciting things to see and do. Beverages, both adult, and non-adult, will be available for purchase, as well as, many different kinds of food from around the world to sample as well...
