Another great band I would love to see come close to here.
As one of the pioneering trip hop bands in the early 90s, English band Portishead exposed the world to a cutting edge sound that has greatly influenced electronic music. While Portishead has only released three albums in the past 17 years, their albums and tour dates have created a huge fan base that is ecstatic over their first North American tour in over a decade. While a new album has been hinted at for three years, there is no update on the record's status and fans will have to make do with these 2011 tour dates.
Portishead exploded onto the scene in 1994 with the release of their critically acclaimed album, Dummy. At this point, the band only consisted of the duo Geoff Barrow and Beth Gibbons but Adrian Utley contributed so much to the album that he was welcomed on as an official member. The album experienced modest success in the US, but received critical and commercial acclaim in the UK and led to sold-out tour dates around Europe. Portishead's 1997 self-titled album experienced similar success, but was followed by a hiatus as the trio took time off to pursue solo endeavors. Portishead returned to the music scene in 2008 with their album, Third, which became the group's first top 10 album in the US. This was followed by numerous tour dates at music festivals around the world, which Portishead continues to do in 2011.
Next up on Portishead's concert schedule is a tour date at Portugal's Super Bock Super Rock Festival on July 15, followed by appearances at All Tomorrow's Parties' I'll Be Your Mirror festival in London in late July. Portishead's North American tour dates in 2011 begin on October 1 and will visit most major American cities. The tour ends on October 27 and tickets are selling fast, so be sure to reserve your spot for these 2011 tour dates today.
