      MORE INFO ABOUT Peter Kay

      Bio

Peter Kay is the hilarious comedian behind such British television gems as Phoenix Nights and Britain's Got the Pop Factor. In addition to the countless popular characters he portrayed on his television shows, Peter Kay is also well known for his stand-up comedy shows, which include several live DVDs. Kay recently played a number of tour dates in 2011 that has sold-out stadiums all over the UK, which has left fans wanting more. Luckily Peter Kay can't sit still for long, and audiences can look forward to the upcoming live DVD from his recent comedy show at the O2 and extended summer tour dates for 2011.

Peter Kay was born in Bolton, Lancashire, where many of the television shows he's written have taken place. He would also later draw inspiration from odd jobs that he had during college, where he became enamored with a stand-up comedy course. After performing comedy shows on the club circuit, Peter Kay hit the big time with Live at the Top of the Tower, which became a huge hit after it was put on DVD. The success allowed him to produce a short for Channel 4's The Comedy Lab called "The Services," which led to the creation of That Peter Kay Thing. The episode titled "In the Club" featured Kay as Brian Potter, the disabled owner of a health club that would inspire Kay's next project, Phoenix Nights. Phoenix Nights saw Brian's outrageous attempts to make his club more popular and became Kay's most popular show up to that point. The program ran for two seasons and was followed by the successful spin-off, Max & Paddy's Road to Nowhere, which followed the traveling adventures of the Phoenix's two bouncers.

Peter Kay had another hit in 2008 upon the premiere of his show, Peter Kay's Britain's Got the Pop Factor… and Possibly a New Celebrity Jesus Christ Soapstar Superstar Strictly on Ice. The show was a parody of talent reality shows like American Idol and The X Factor. After becoming an established television star, Kay returned to his stand-up career by performing sold-out comedy shows around England, including extended tour dates in 2011. After such a lengthy tour schedule and recently starting a family, Peter Kay is taking a well deserved rest. However, due to his comedy show tour's popularity, Kay has added tour dates in 2011, beginning September 27. Comedy shows will take place at the Manchester Evening News Arena and will run until October 21, so be sure to buy your tickets on Eventful soon.
