As a child musical prodigy, LeAnn Rimes garnered fame, success, and money by the time she was fourteen. We have seen what immense success at an early age can do to a celebrity. However, Rimes managed to grow into adulthood relatively unscathed and chartered her own path to reemerge as a country music hit-maker. LeAnn Rimes tour dates are scheduled periodically this 2011 in support of her upcoming release Lady and Gentlemen.
The Mississippi native got her start on Star Search and a Broadway production of Annie before she even reached ten-years old. The young LeAnn toured nationally with her father, but it wasn't until she was discovered by famed DJ, Bill Mack, that Rimes was able to crack into mainstream country music. Mack saw a little bit of Patsy Cline in the pint size aspiring singer, and recruited Rimes to record a demo of a song that he had intended for Patsy Cline. The demo recording of "Blue" had A&R execs at Curb Records clamoring to sign LeAnn. The single was re-recorded and was included on her major label debut, Blue in 1996. The album was a smash success and remains the biggest record of her career. The album peaked at #1 on the Country charts and #3 on the Billboard 200. Eventually, it went on to sell over four million copies in the US. In 1997, Rimes was awarded the Grammy for Best New Artist and Best Female Country Vocal Performance. She quickly became a star and the pressure was on to record equally successful records.
Her sophomore album You Light up My Life: Inspirational Songs was a cover album of inspirational material which broadened her appeal and marked a transition towards a more Adult-Contemporary format for the country singer. She became a certified pop-star with the release of the single "How Do I Live", which was also recorded by Trisha Yearwood. The single, became the biggest pop hit of the year and set a record as the longest running single when it spent 69 weeks on the Hot 100. The single signaled Rimes' entrance into the pop world, and she subsequently released several more pop-oriented albums including Sittin' On Top Of the World and I Need You. Rimes was heavily featured in the soundtrack to the movie "Coyote Ugly" where she made a cameo and recorded several of the songs for the soundtrack including her hit "Can't Fight the Moonlight". After releasing the coming of age pop album, "Twisted Angel", Rimes took a long hiatus to focus on her personal life and figure out the direction of her career.
Rimes returned in 2005 with a decisively country infused album; This Woman signaled LeAnn's return to country and produced her most successful country singles in years. The album was certified gold and featured the hits "Nothin' Bout Love Makes Sense" and "Probably Wouldn't be this Way". The album solidified her evolution into a mature country diva and was welcomed by critics and fans alike who wanted more material that complimented her Patsy Clinesque vocals. Since her big return to country music, LeAnn has been a mainstay on the country dial producing successive hit albums and singles. She is back this 2011 with her tenth major label studio album, Lady and Gentlemen, which is slated to be released in 2011. In support of the album, LeAnn Rimes tour dates are scheduled periodically across the country. Rimes emerged as a country singing virtuoso as a young teen, but was able to make the transition into a country woman and we are sure glad she did. I took my family to see LeAnn Rimes in concert at The Paragon Casino in Marksville, Louisiana (June 09, 2012)... I was sort of disappointed that she only sang about 12-15 songs, if that many, with all the hit songs she has on record. Great songs and voice, just poor Management! While most concert are at least 1 hour and a half, but normally go at least two (2) hours, and more for most Country Music Entertainers. Not LeAnn, it went ninety (90) minutes or a few minutes less. No, she did not come out for pictures, autographs, or to interact with her Fans after the very short concert, which was more of her talking to the crowd than singing to them! If the Fans wanted her autograph, they had to pay $5.00 extra for pre-signed pictures (oops, ran out before I got waited on) from the rude Concession Stand people. Sorry LeAnn, but I've followed your career for over fifteen (15) years, and disappointed myself and my family. Charles Rushing / UC (June 10, 2012).
