Ethan Lipton

Ethan Lipton has been compared to Tom Waits, Garrison Keillor, Randy Newman, Leon Redbone, Peter Sellers and a eucalyptus tree, among others. His deft tales of misfortunate everymen are steeped in American traditions of yore (jazz, blues, country), but his subjects are thoroughly modern (thrift stores, office romance, renaissance faires). It all adds up to a hilariously cockeyed view of an odd, disjointed age (Popmatters called him “a man out of time”). After putting out two much-acclaimed live albums on NYC indie label Home Office Records, Lipton and his Orchestra (Eben Levy, Vito Dieterle, Ian M. Riggs) just released "Mr. Softy," his third CD and first full-length studio recording.
