Who Will Tell Their Story? Highlight of DAR Lineage Workshop

“Who will Tell Their Story?” Highlight of DAR Lineage Workshop.

The Caroline Close Stuart Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution will host a free DAR Genealogy/Lineage Research Workshop to assist those women 18 years of age or older who are interested in joining the DAR, and can prove a direct bloodline to a Revolutionary War Patriot. Every Patriot has a story and a lineage to descendants who are wondering “who will tell their story?”. Working with the local DAR Chapter is one way of finding and documenting the story of your family and your Patriot.

The workshop will take place from 9:00 am to 4:00 p.m. Saturday, February 2, 2013, at the Deer Run Library, 1300 North Main, O’Fallon, Missouri. The genealogical workshop will place emphasis on the tools and techniques necessary to pursue family research.

Topics to be covered in the workshop: DAR membership qualifications, what it takes to establish lineage, research strategies, how to fill in and submit an application for membership, and how to fill in and submit applications for “supplemental” ancestors.

The mission of the Caroline C. Stuart Chapter “is to perpetuate the memory and spirit of the men and women who achieved American independence, to promote knowledge of American history, to conduct genealogical research and to cherish, maintain and perpetuate American freedom, liberty and patriotism.”

We would have nothing if it were not for our ancestors. They broke the prairie land into fields, dug the first wells, built the first homes, the first churches and the first schools. They often started with little, faced great hardships, overcame many obstacles and never gave up so that we would have a better life. Who will tell their story so they are never forgotten?"

If you are interested and able to attend, please bring any documentation you have collected so far: birth, marriage and death certificates (where applicable) for you, your parents, and grandparents, and any other family documentation to show your lineage.

If you haven’t started to collect any family documentation yet, please come and learn about the steps needed
to document your lineage (your direct bloodline descent from your ancestors).

Mary Jo Anderson, registrar of the Chapter and DAR Field Genealogist, will conduct the workshop. Other members of the Chapter will be present to help answer any questions you may have, assist you with some of your research, and help with the application process. The Caroline Close Stuart Chapter, NSDAR serves members and prospective members from Lake St. Louis, O’Fallon, Dardenne Prairie, Wentzville, and Warrenton.

Reservations are not required, but would be helpful for planning purposes. For additional information, contact Mary Jo Anderson, Registrar, at 636-294-5549; or Susan Russ, Regent, at 636-978-1869. You may also find us on the web at http://www.mssdar.org/ccstuart.
