      EVENT DETAILS
Lakenham Military Hospital with Colmans' Detective Barry Wilkinson - Heritage Hour

Barry Wilkinson is one of the Colman Detectives who have been building on the knowledge of the Colmans’ factory workers during WW1 through the Colman's Connections project, run by Norwich HEART. Join Barry to hear about the history of Lakenham Military Hospital.    The Hospital was located in the premises of Lakenham Council School which had only been built by the City Council in 1913 and which had been scheduled to receive its first pupils in August 1914. In fact, with the outbreak of First World War hostilities, its intended use for educational purposes was delayed until 1919 because the premises were requisitioned by the Army Council for use as a military hospital. This talk will look at the work of the Hospital; cover life as a WW1 casualty; provide details of patient totals, and refer to one or two case studies.   This talk is part of our regular Heritage Hour Series taking place every other Tuesday at 1pm. These talks are all free of charge and seat 45, first come, first served.  If you have any queries please contact the Norfolk Heritage Centre heritagecentre@norfolk.gov.uk / 01 603 774740.
