* WHAT

Day 1, 1:00 - 4:30p.m.

·       Overview of the Creating New Economies Fund (CNEF), a small grant program that supports “triple bottom line” projects (http://www.resourcefulcommunities.org/sites/resourcefulcommunities.org/files/CNEF_RCP_final_July%2022_web.pdf ).

·       If your organization is interested in applying for a Creating New Economies Fund (CNEF) grant for the first time, attendance at the CNEF overview is required as is participation in other workshops/ events.  Questions about CNEF or participation?  Contact Kathleen Marks at 919-951-0111 or kmarks@conservationfund.org.

Day 2, 8:30a.m. – 4:30p.m.

·       Overview of a new assessment tool that will help define your organization’s strengths and needs.

·       Table-top lunch discussions will feature a discussion on how the new “Farm Bill” affects you and Toxic Free NC will discuss toxic free alternatives and more!

·       Afternoon small group sessions will focus on Strategic Planning, Financial Management and Board Development:

Strategic Planning: Susan Sachs, Resourceful Communities

Strategic Planning is a powerful word with various meanings. Let’s de-mystify nonprofit strategic planning!  Participants will learn about the benefits and purpose of the process; how to engage folks in your organization and who should be involved; the different parts of a strategic planning process and how a strategic plan can be used internally AND to inform and develop relationships with funders, donors, volunteers and other people who are critical to your success. 

Getting Your Books in Order:  Alfreda Barringer, RoadMap Consulting

Identify best practices to help community organizations learn more about accounting and fiscal management.  We’ll explore what you’re required to report, the pieces you need in place to report effectively, and ways to begin building a reserve.

Building and Maintaining Effective Boards:  Cynthia Brown, Resourceful Communities

This interactive session will explore Board roles and responsibilities with emphasis on recruitment and retention of board members, its governance/leadership role, board operations and structure.  This workshop is designed for Staff and Board participation.

Participants will:

·       Review the Creating New Economies Fund small grants program, including eligibility, criteria, timeline and application process.

·       Discuss strategic planning with a particular focus on short-term change.

·       Explore best practices for nonprofit accounting.

·       Develop a plan for recruiting – and retaining – an engaged Board.

·       Lunch-and-learn with resource partners.

* WHO

We welcome all community leaders working with a grassroots organization or launching a grassroots effort!  Resourceful Communities provides training for triple bottom line efforts – ideas, projects and programs that help improve communities.

* WHAT TO BRING

Current strategic plan, annual budget and funding sources, examples of current challenges, and enthusiasm!

* COST -- *NEW*

There will be a $10 registration fee per organization payable at the door by check or cash.  Each organization can send up to 3 participants.  A limited number of scholarships are available. Contact Donna Pratt at dpratt@conservationfund.org or 919-951-0116 for more information.  (Please note:  Resourceful Communities averages nearly $200 in expenses for each workshop participant.  This nominal $10 fee will help us defray expenses.)

Mileage will only be reimbursed from the workshop closest to your home.  We strongly encourage carpooling!
