She has seen thousands of people come through her shows over the years, has curated specialty events and stages, and has become a pillar of the local artistic community. Jeanette began performing spoken word poetry in 2011 at a small open mic in West Palm Beach. The show, called Lyrical Ink, provided a taste of artistic expression and creative community that inspired her to step into the spoken word world. She now runs and hosts that same Lyrical Ink show, which has grown exponentially with her care into a highly successful monthly event. She also hosts The Utterance, a bi-monthly open mic featuring local artists of all talents. Jeanette has developed a writing and performance workshop, Open Notes, designed to hone and shape creatives, and prepare them for her stages. Through her stages, many artists have been catapulted to further success. She has seen musicians sign on to record labels, creative collaborations recorded onto albums, talent scouts finding future stars, and even one sensational story of success in Featured Artist turned top four Voice star, Brooke Simpson. Over the years, Jeanette has crafted spoken word pieces that focus on truth, calls to action, and uplift- pushing the audience to move, change, and think. Her mission also revolves around empowering the next generation, speaking worth into lives, and spreading a message of love and hope. She has worked with organizations such as Hope For Freedom, the Homeless Coalition, No Child Hungry, Rescue Upstream, Common Ground Community Development, and more. She has been featured on several podcasts and on many South Florida stages. In 2015, she took her poetry nationwide, on the Stained Glass Poet Tour. This three-week trip took her up the East Coast with four other spoken word artists, performing at conferences, coffee shops, homes, and more. She has curated several specialty shows in South Florida including ARTiculate: A Celebration of Spoken Word, the Friendly Fire Poetry Battle, and Girls Mic Night. Jeanette has created a series of chapbooks that feature her writing. ‘The Birthplace of Butterflies’ dives into all areas of love, ‘Gold-Lined Cracks’ explores the struggle to find self-worth, and ‘Un-Bound’ tackles the topic of human trafficking, and the broader theme of hope. She is currently developing a website to further connect to her audience and to spotlight local talent. Her ultimate goal is to spread impact beyond the stage. Big things are on the horizon. Dreams are coming into fruition. The sky is no longer a limit, and a community of support is SO important. Please, join her in the adventure. Connect with Jeanette here!
