The Keynote Speaker is marketing professional Frederick Joseph, who is best known for creating the largest GoFundMe in history, the #BlackPantherChallenge, which ultimately raised over $950k and enabled more than 75,000 children worldwide to see the film Black Panther. Frederick has been named to the 2019 class of Forbes’ 30 Under 30 for Marketing and Advertising, was awarded the 2018 Comic-Con Humanitarian of the Year Award, and was designated to the 2018 Root 100 list of most influential African-Americans. He writes about marketing, race, and representation for USA Today, the Huffington Post, and NowThis News. Joseph will be discussing the importance of Black youth not only having their needs met, but also building a community of people who will inject joy into their lives daily. It is important and needed to counteract the daily traumas of our community with joyful moments and a positive vision of the future. Experts and activists will conduct workshops on various subjects such as positive disciplinary practices and the racial wealth gap’s effects on Black youth. There will be other organizations with tables offering information about voter registration, mental health, legal services for youth targeted by the school to prison pipeline, etc. The Horry County Alliance for Educational Justice*, Believing in a Better World (, and Grand Strand Action Together ( are sponsors of the conference.  We would sincerely appreciate your support in our collective effort to develop solutions to the issues plaguing Black youth in our communities.
