      Ponies Gone Wild

Herds of Virginia Highlands Ponies have roamed free and wild along the grassy balds and spruce forests of Wilburn Ridge for more than forty years. Their thick manes blow in the wind as they graze alongside the trails. Make Grayson Highlands your destination this spring and see them for yourself. A ranger will be waiting at Massie Gap parking lot to guide you up the Rhododendron Trail for the opportunity to see these ponies gone wild. The Highlands are prone to particularly cold temperatures, high winds, and snowy conditions during the spring and winter months. Please check the weather prior to your visit and dress accordingly. We will be hiking a total of two miles on moderate terrain. Hike subject to cancellation due to hazardous weather. Please contact the park office for further information, (276) 579-7092. **Event location detail: Massie Gap: Rhododendron Trail
