Protecting Religious Liberty: the Importance of Separation of Government and Religion

Rev. Nancy Brink will discuss why the first clause of the first amendment to the U.S. Constitution is more important than ever. The principle of church-state separation is the only way to ensure freedom of religion, including the right to believe or not believe, for all Americans. The April 18 luncheon meeting of the Democratic Women of Monterey County takes place from 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. at the Hilton Garden Inn, 1000 Aguajito Rd., Monterey. Tickets are $35 for DWMC members and $45 for non-members. The public is welcome to attend.

Rev. Brink is a Trustee for Americans United for the Separation of Church and State in Washington, DC. She will be discussing the important work of this organization at the luncheon. Currently, she is the Director of Church Relations at Chapman University in Orange, CA where she leads a group of over 80 Disciples and UCC students at this Disciples-related university. She is responsible for raising money for church related scholarships, recruiting Disciples and UCC students and supporting the student ministry. She also serves as a campus chaplain. Rev. Brink brings to Chapman her extensive experience as a global traveler, leadership coach, labyrinth facilitator and spiritual mentor.

Previously, Rev. Brink was a parish pastor for 30 years, 20 of them as Senior Minister of North Side Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Omaha, NE. She holds a M.Div. from the Divinity School of Vanderbilt University.
