The O2 Academy Liverpool opened its doors in September 2003 with a performance from local band, Shack. The 1,250 capacity venue quickly established itself as a premier live music venue, allowing audiences the opportunity to take in high-profile indie, rock, dance and urban acts in an intimate setting. The Kooks, Elbow, The Thrills, Blondie, Hard Fi, Arcade Fire and Corrine Bailey Rae are just a few of the acts who have featured on The O2 Academy Liverpool schedule over the years.

The popularity of The O2 Academy Liverpool is no doubt aided by the inclusion of a second performance space, O2 Academy 2 which has a lesser capacity of 500 and a varied functionality - nightclub or a platform for unsigned bands as well as new bands embarking on national tours.
