      MaciFest 2014

MaciFest is a one day event (held at the Lake Charles Civic Center) that offers fun sports activities, live music, and an auction for the entire family.  The purpose of MaciFest is to empower young people to make a difference and to use Maci's story to inspire others to be overcomers. MaciFest 2014 donations are going to the American Red Cross and the celebrity guest is professional surfer, Bethany Hamilton.  Bethany's story was the inspiration behind the movie Soul Surfer.

MaciFest was created through the vision of Maci Fontenot (now 10 yrs. old), who at the age of 4, was diagnosed with an Optical Glioma (brain tumor).  During her journey to recovery, she was given the opportunity to meet the Jonas Brothers through the Make-A-Wish Foundation. The experience made a huge impact on her. She began her mission to make a difference and encourage other children to get involved. She is also working with the Texas Children's Hospital Optical Glioma research team to help find a cure for the blind to see again through the sale of her published book You Can't Take My Vision! ( Although Maci lost all vision in her left eye due to the tumor, she is alive and well and using her story to make good things come from something that did not feel so good. Our slogan is “Having fun while making a difference”.
