A4AI-Nigeria Coalition Meeting at IFF 2017

View the Agenda ABOUT A4AI-NIGERIA The Alliance for Affordable Internet (A4AI)—the world’s broadest technology sector coalition—brings together prominent players from government, the private sector, and civil society to work to reduce the cost of a broadband connection and enable billions more to come online. Since 2014, A4AI-Nigeria has been working on four priority issues to unlock the potential for affordable, universal and equal access in the country: infrastructure sharing and open access, spectrum, consumer awareness and pricing transparency, and taxation and financing. At the coalition meeting, the A4AI-Nigeria coordinators and working group champions will review their progress on the 2017 work plans so far and highlight opportunities for coalition members to contribute to the outputs. The meeting is open to all stakeholders committed to promoting policy and regulatory reform to make affordable internet possible in Nigeria. View the agenda. ABOUT THE INTERNET FREEDOM FORUM 2017 Internet Freedom Forum 2017 (#IFF2017)—hosted by A4AI partner Paradigm Initiative—focuses on current and emerging trends around digital rights in Africa. From April 25-27th, 2017, join civil society organisations, policy and legal experts, industry leaders, members of academia, and government representatives to share best practices, updates on in-country work, solutions, and opportunities for collaboration. A4AI-Nigeria coalition members who wish to register for Day 1 & 2 of #IFF2017 may contact i-oluwaseun.ajayi@pinigeria.org and karolle.rabarison@webfoundation.org to express their interest. GENDER AND DIGITAL RIGHTS @ IFF 2017 On April 27th, as part of #IFF2017, the Women's Rights Online programme of the Web Foundation will support a panel focused on Gender and Digital Rights — how policymakers need to address the digital gender gap. WRO network partners Julie Owono (Internet Sans Frontieres, Cameroon) and Vivian Affoah (Media Foundation for West Africa, Ghana) will participate as panelists and present their country scorecards from the Digital Gender Gap Audit. TRAVEL SUPPORT FOR CIVIL SOCIETY A4AI strives to ensure all stakeholders have the opportunity to contribute to coalition activities. Financial support for travel and accommodations is available to representatives of civil society organisations that are active members of the A4AI-Nigeria Coalition. As funds are limited, support will be awarded in a competitive process. Deadline to apply for support is Wednesday, April 5th. Please review the guidelines for travel support, and note that the team can only reimburse pre-approved expenses.  CSO representatives who require support to Lagos for the coalition meeting and IFF may apply by completing this form: http://goo.gl/forms/CoOlQSExnfS7qEym1. Applications close Wednesday, April 5th. JOIN THE COALITION Thank you for your continued support of A4AI and your commitment to making Internet in Nigeria more affordable. You can sign up to join the multi-stakeholder coalition and one or more of its working groups on the A4AI-Nigeria page.
