      EVENT DETAILS
      OR/K ANS November Dinner Meeting

Speaker: Professor J. Wesley Hines University of Tennessee Nuclear Engineering Department Dr. J. Wesley Hines is the Head of the Nuclear Engineering Department at the University of Tennessee.  He has also served as Interim Associate Dean for Research in the College of Engineering and more recently as Interim Vice Chancellor for Research for the Campus.  Dr. Hines received the BS degree in Electrical Engineering from Ohio University in 1985, and then served as a nuclear qualified submarine officer in the US Navy.  He later received both an MBA and an MS in Nuclear Engineering from The Ohio State University in 1992, and a Ph.D. in Nuclear Engineering from The Ohio State University in 1994. He has served the University of Tennessee for over 20 years. Under Dr. Hines’ leadership, his department has grown to the largest Nuclear Engineering PhD program in the country and his department is now the 4th ranked department in the country by US News and World Reports. Built in 1925, Pasqua Hall was originally constructed to function as the university’s power plant. It was renovated in 1973 to house the Department of Nuclear Engineering. In 1988, the building, unnamed since its construction in 1925, was designated Pasqua Hall in honor of Pietro F. Pasqua, the first head of the Department of Nuclear Engineering, which was established in 1957. With design plans in the works for an engineering complex that will replace both Pasqua and Estabrook Halls and will house the freshman engineering programs and the Department of Nuclear Engineering, this is an excellent opportunity for the OR/K ANS local section to learn more about the state of the nuclear engineering department moving into the coming years.
