Freedom Hall is a department of the City of Johnson City and is a "leased" facility. We do not have the authority to purchase talent (i.e., concerts, talent, family shows, wrestling, etc.) but are dependent upon promoters leasing the facility, taking the monetary risk, and putting together an event. Due to the very small size of the facility, number of saleable seats, size of the arena floor, etc. many promoters are unable make it work financially in the facility...if takes "x" number of seats to sale to be able to make the deals with the talent. If you have the choice of doing the show in a facility with 10,000+ seats or 5,000 seats and it takes 4,500 seats to break even...which facility would you choose for your show. Freedom Hall is also unable to sell alcohol for any type of event since it is located on a Tennessee school campus. Alcohol is a revenue generator and is sometimes used to share with a promoter to offset expenses...this is not an option here.

In the 70s and 80s, Freedom Hall brought in the best in heavy metal and rock. I have seen so many bands. From AC/DC to ZZ Top, Ozzy to Alice Cooper, Metallica to Motley Crue. Now, I have to take my son and his friends to Knoxville, Atlanta, or Nashville to see the heavy metal bands that I love. We have traveled out of town three times in the past two years just to see Megadeth. In fact, we saw them at the Knoxville Coliseum with Slayer and Anthrax. I know a show like this would sell out at Freedom Hall!!!! While I am commenting, Bristol Motor Speedway could bring in some awesome outdoor festivals as well. Bristol TN/VA and Interstate 81 is a crossroads for travel. This area is also a cultural treasure. And, in terms of the economy, the local city councils might be surprised at how much us old heavy metal heads will spend.

I have been an member of EVENTFUL/DEMAND IT! for quite some time.I simply do not understand why FREEDOM HALL /JOHNSON CITY,TN . Has stopped having concerts!! We have had in time the biggest names in rock,country,and much more.Do they not care anymore ?? I think it is a waste!!!! If we keep demanding these events and stick together,help each other with each event.Maybe that will get their attn!!!!??? VIKING HALL gets alot!!! What is the problem?? I would love to know!! What do you all think? It is crazy going out of state to see out favorites,when they use to come here in concert.Even comedy acts.. Lets get the word to whom ever is in charge of FREEDOM HALL lets step on the gas and be a part of the entertainment world again!!!!!! Thank You..
