REGISTRATION will open on April 1st at 6am. You won’t want to miss this fabulous tour through the Woodlands in Jacksonville with funny, inspiring, and knowledgeable leader, Larry Smith. This is a four-mile hike through Jacksonville’s Historic Rich Gulch Mining District and descent into French Gulch to view a reestablished hydraulic mining display and water cannon. The three-hour hike will also include the Chinese Diggings and Panorama Point and if time allows a partial hike on the Petard Water Ditch Trail. Larry will discuss how the miners changed the forests around Jacksonville and the group will be able to view a number of “Glory Holes” that proved to be far from glorious. Larry Smith is a local school teacher and a longtime resident and board member of the Jacksonville Woodlands Association. The Southern Oregon Land Conservancy holds seven conservation easements on lands owned by the City of Jacksonville that are part of the Jacksonville Woodlands and Trails system. Learn more at landconserve.org/jacksonville-woodlands.
