War of the Worlds - 75th Anniversary Radio Play

As a special “Treat” to the community, the Center brings to the stage on Halloween evening, the original radio drama adaptation of H. G. Wells’, War of the Worlds. The radio drama was adapted from the 1898 novel by H. G. Wells, of an alien invasion of Earth. Actor and film maker Orson Welles, created a mock news-bulletin in which he moved the original story from 19th century England to Grover’s Mills, New Jersey. Broadcast on the Mercury Theatre on the Air series, on Halloween 1938, it was calculated that over 6 million people heard the broadcast with almost 1.7 million listeners actually believing it true. Our version will be performed by the professional acting troupe led by Jim Greene, Scarlett Rat Entertainment and will be broadcast live on WXHC 101.5 FM and streamed on the World Wide Web at Jim and S.R.E. are the folks who perform our annual holiday radio-play each year in December. This is a Thursday Night Free event and open to the public. Doors open at 6:30 pm for our Center Social Hour with the play beginning at 7:30; plenty of time to get in some serious trick or treating and then come to the radio play. Don’t miss this 75th Anniversary Special of The War of the Worlds!
