The Headland Area Chamber of Commerce board of directors and volunteers are working on the plans for the 2013 Harvest Day Festival.

The event is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 12, with opening ceremonies beginning at 9 a.m. around the town square.

Last year the event brought more than 9,000 residents and visitors to downtown Headland. The day-long event will be filled with various vendors offering a variety of arts and crafts, children’s games, rides, food and entertainment.

“We are very excited about this year’s event,” said Gail DeFee, chamber president. “We will have local queens in attendance to greet everyone as well as entertainment, that we believe, will appeal to everyone in attendance. The Harvest Day Festival is just a great family event, and we look forward to seeing everyone there.”

Vendors are encouraged to register early. The chamber reminds all interested vendors that the only food vendors allowed will be non-profit organizations for the Headland community. Food vendors are responsible for contacting John Bell at the Henry County Health Department, 585-2660, for the proper permits. Vendors will be responsible for furnishing their own tent for their booth. Set-up time will be from 6:30-8:30 a.m. The chamber will set up a corner entrance on the downtown square (East Church Street and Park Street) to direct vendors to their assigned/reserved spaces. Space rentals are as follows: 16x16, $55; 16x16 with electricity, $80; 16x16 commercial sales, $150; 16x16 commercial sales with electricity, $175. Activity events (moonwalk/bull ride/etc.), $125 rental fee; and pony and train rides, $100.

Deadline for booth registration is Friday, Sept. 27. Vendor booths will only be reserved when full payment is received and on a first come, first serve basis.

Registration forms for the 2013 Harvest Day Pageant will be sent to all Headland schools during August, or forms can be picked up from the chamber office.

The Harvest Day Run is scheduled for Oct. 5. For more information regarding the Harvest Run, call the chamber at 693-3303.

“Mark your calendars early and make plans to attend this great event,” DeFee said. “This event allows us to not only pay tribute to our local farmers but to our great city as well.”
