Alice Aycock, A Simple Network of Underground Wells and Tunnels will have its opening reception at Omi International Arts Center on June 2nd, 1-4pm.
A Simple Network of Underground Wells and Tunnels is a land art sculpture, originally constructed by Aycock in 1975, reconstructed at Art Omi under the artist's supervision. The piece is a series of deep concrete wells, connected by underground corridors. The artist describes the work as “a subterranean network of passages set up for the purpose of operating below the surface of the earth” The work creates a primal architectural experience of moving beneath the earth from light to darkness.
