ArtYard is pleased to present "The Past is Prologue, Vernacular Photography from the Collections of Daile Kaplan, W.M. Hunt, Nigel Poor, Pete Brook, and Cynthia Rubin. With Original Works by Marcia Lippman and Cassandra Zampini."

The Past is Prologue is an experiential guide to the evolution of everyday photography from its inception to Instagram. The exhibition explores a beguiling terrain comprised of unauthored and found photographs, images divorced from their original contexts, everyday images that have been granted meaning by curatorial choice, and an array of original artworks and interactive exhibits. Works of vernacular photography encompass photo booth portraiture, family albums and snapshots, press prints from newspaper archives, industrial catalogues, and works that have been newly construed as art by virtue of the viewer’s eye. The exhibition also features a multi-channel Instagram installation representing one second of one hashtag on Instagram, a paper moon photo booth, a Depository of Unwanted Photographs, and an illuminated artwork by Elsa Mora constructed of X-ray films from the 1930s.
