"Figure Drawing" with Brent Eviston (NEW SESSION!)

DESCRIPTION: This workshop focuses on the fundamental techniques and ideas behind figure drawing, including gesture, the basic structures of the body, contours and lighting. Brent has taken his study of numerous methods of figure drawing and combined them with his own ideas and experiences to create a unique approach. Students are encouraged to keep one foot in the tried and true traditions while they experiment to find their own modus operandi.

This 6-week class meets twice a week (Mondays and Thursdays) to draw from a live model. Monday classes are instructed; Thursday classes are practice sessions, with the instructor available for questions, demos and critiques.

Week Two: Proportion & Measuring

Week Three: Simplified Forms of the Body

Week Four: Arriving at Contours

Week Five: Lighting the Body

Week Six: Putting it all Together

DATE/TIME: October 21-December 5 / Mondays and Thursdays from 4-6 p.m. (with Thanksgiving week off)

PRICE: $200 for all twelve sessions plus modeling fee (modeling fee is dependent on number of people in class -- will not exceed $10 per session).

INSTRUCTOR BIO: In 2012 Brent Eviston gave a talk at TEDx Eureka  arguing that drawing and visual literacy are as important as language and mathematics. He is a full-time artist with a passion for teaching and interacting with other artists. He has taken his years of drawing and teaching experience and created a unique set of workshop experiences that combine clear technical instruction with the encouragement to experiment and explore.
