      SINCE '76 DUBLIN

Dee Wright Productions presents an exciting play from author, Dr. Shirlene Holmes. The production will run at the Dublin Theatre for one production only. The production will run on Saturday, April 20, 2013

“Since ‘76” was written by Dr. Shirlene Holmes. Her dramas are rooted in the Black experience. For over 25 years she has used theatre as a vehicle for education, inspiration and to facilitate social change. Holmes’ plays give voice to the marginalized in society and celebrates the profundity of the common person. Her greatest influences are the Black holiness church where she grew up, the Black Power and the Feminist movements of the 1960s and 1970s, her vast reading and travel as well as her indomitable passion for Black people here and around the world.

SINCE 76 is a choreopoem (a play comprised of poetry, monologues and vignettes with movement and songs).  It’s about the Black woman's story from 1970s to now.  It's a drama that pays homage to the past, analyses the present and confronts social issues head on clouding the future. This 2 act play is dramatic and at times humorous, insightful and poignant.  SINCE 76 is a provocative expose on Black female life created for audiences that want more than a stereotypical portrayal of African American women.  SINCE 76 will get in your your mind....and hopefully in your heart. The scene 16-44 is a vignette from the play that explores the subject of African American women contracting AIDS. Black women in this age bracket are the fastest growing number of new casualties of the AIDS epidemic.

The show will feature cast members Andrea Anderson as FLAME, Megan Weaver as TOPAZ, Tiffany Warner as TANGO, Angela Byrd as INDIGO, Denise Milfort as SAND, Ramona Stephens as AMETHYST, Chriscynthia Calhoun as SAGE, Lesley Sails as STONE and Dee Wright as BONE.

The production is directed and produced by Daphne “Dee” Wright .Wright, the owner of Dee Wright Productions, has been mentored by Dr. Shirlene Holmes for over thirteen years
