      Solar Eclipse Showdown

      Washington State Park will host a series of events to celebrate the Total Solar Eclipse of 2017. All events below will take place at the petroglyph site. Parking will be at the shelter #1 parking lot within walking distance to the site. Visitors are encouraged to bring a lawn chair/blanket for their own seating.  Concessions will be available for sale, but visitors can bring their own picnic lunch.

      9 a.m. – Noon - Solar Energy Demonstrations

      Learn about the power of the sun!  A variety of solar energy exhibits and demonstrations will be on display. These displays will be available to view and explore as an unguided exhibit.

      9 a.m. – Noon -  Interpretive Crafts for Kids

      Interpretive displays and kid crafts will be available for participation and viewing.

      9:30 a.m. - Petroglyph and Glade Tour

      This guided interpretive walk highlights two of Washington State Park’s unique features. The walk begins with a tour of the ancient Native American rock carvings and will then venture out to the glade, where visitors will learn about life on this unique landscape.  Approximately one hour.

      11 a.m. – 1 p.m. - Concessions

      Concessions will be available for purchase.

      11 a.m. - All About Eclipses

      What is an eclipse?  How does a total solar eclipse work and what happens?  Learn all about the eclipse – right before the eclipse!  Approximately 30 minutes.

      11:30 a.m. - Viewing of Solar Eclipse

      Join other astronomical enthusiasts and amateurs to view this nature phenomenon.  The eclipse will start at 11:49 a.m. and the total eclipse will occur at approximately 1:16 p.m.  The total eclipse will last about three minutes.  Eclipse sunglasses and viewers will be available for purchase while supplies last.  Be prepared for total darkness at this event. All artificial lighting will be banned during the time of the total eclipse. The partial eclipse will then continue after the total until approximately 2:30 p.m.
