      Cancer Treatment Discovery! Form Fits Function

      Saturday, May 4, 2019, 5:00-7:00 pm University of Vermont, Davis Center, Mansfield Dining Room FREE pizza and drinks; open to all youth in grades 7-12 Register@ no later than May 1 “Like” us CAFE DESCRIPTION: This café is designed to be an interactive journey highlighting targeted cancer treatment development. By using virtual organ and histologic images, participants will be challenged to recognize morphologic differences in tumors.  Come to this café and you will use your own discoveries as the spring board for developing unique ideas for new cancer treatments. Real examples of recent cancer treatment discoveries will be used to enhance the students’ self-discovery. NEW THIS YEAR! A follow-up workshop on May 14 from 4:00-5:00 pm will take place in the Larner College of Medicine gross organ web lab to examine organs and discuss pathophysiology of disease and preventable illnesses. This workshop will be available only to students who attend this café and will be limited to 12 participants. Registration will open after the café. ABOUT OUR SPEAKER Dr. Rebecca Wilcox is the Director of Gastrointestinal/Liver Pathology and the Vice Chair of Pathology Education in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the University of Vermont Health Network. She is also an Associate Professor at the Robert Larner, M.D. College of Medicine at UVM. What is a Teen Science Café? It is a free, fun way for teens to explore science, engineering and technology with local scientists, engineers and technology experts. Teens participate in informal discussions and hands-on activities to learn about different topics. And, there is always free food!
