Bismarck-Mandan Civic Chorus 40th Anniversary Celebration Concert

The Bismarck-Mandan Civic Chorus’ spring concert on Saturday, April 28, at 7:30 p.m. at the Belle Mehus Auditorium will be its “40th Anniversary Celebration.”   The concert will feature folk music, spirituals, and patriotic music, as well as special guests Jubilate! of Central Dakota Children’s Choir and high school vocal competition winner, Logan Kjos.  Alumni members of the Bismarck-Mandan Civic Chorus from the past 40 years will join in singing the closing selection, “Battle Hymn of the Republic”. In addition to “Battle Hymn,” the audience will enjoy familiar tunes such as “Cindy,” “Skip to My Lou,” (with CDCC) “America the Beautiful,” and “Bridge Over Troubled Waters.” Kjos will perform a solo piece as well as solo with the choir on the spiritual, “I Got a Home in-a Dat Rock.”   Since its inception in 1977, the Chorus has expanded from a single concert to a season with a number of concert events. The chorus includes Foxy Brunen, Debi Rogers, Tom Porter and Clyde Bauman from its original roster, and Tom Porter is marking his 25th year as chorus director.   The Civic Chorus has had a tremendous impact on the arts community in Bismarck-Mandan and throughout North Dakota. We have performed for thousands of children through our annual SIPS program with the Bismarck Public Schools, “This Is An Opera,” been featured on concerts at state and local government events, such as the Roughrider Award with Angie Dickinson and the 9-11 Community Memorial, performed with the Bismarck-Mandan Symphony Orchestra, the Missouri Valley Chamber Orchestra, and Bismarck-Mandan Community Band, sung at state, regional and national events, including a performance at Carnegie Hall, and taken our show on the road to small towns throughout the region as part of our annual outreach.   Tickets for the concert are $15 for general admission, $10 for students and seniors, and free for preschoolers and are available at Eckroth Music, the Barber’s Wife, at the door, and online here through Eventbrite.
