      Puffins of Petit Manan

Join Schoodic Institute's Bird Ecology Program Director and seabird biologist, Seth Benz, for an in-depth look at the species and ecology of a vibrant seabird colony.   This package will start with a lobster dinner followed by an evening presentation on campus.  The next day will start with an optional hour-long early morning bird walk on campus in search of song and sight of colorful warblers and other nesting songbirds.  A delicious hot breakfast will be served at 7am, accompanied by bird-friendly coffee, cocoa or tea.  Following breakfast we'll pick up our bag lunch for the day and head off to the 3-hour boat tour.  In addition to a colony of Atlantic Puffin, Common Eider and several species of terns at Petit Manan Island, the boat route will allow us to see a seal basking ledge, a Double-Crested Cormorant nesting colony and an active Bald Eagle nest.   Should our planned tour be cancelled due to unfit weather to be on the water, we'll provide an exciting land-based birding tour featuring some of the secret reaches of Acadia National Park.  The inclement weather alternative land-based tour is an optional offering, the other choice would be to provide you with a refund. Transportation to and from Schoodic Marine Center and boat fee are covered.  This is a fabulous opportunity for photographers, artists or organized group outings of up to 20.  Call for more info if you are interested in booking a group tour for one of the given dates. Please call Michelle at 207-288-1356 to discuss lodging availability.  To view lodging options available, click on link below.   FAQs   What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event? Should our planned tour be cancelled due to inclement weather to be on the water, we'll provide an exciting land-based birding tour featuring some of the secret reaches of Acadia National Park.  The inclement weather alternative is optional.  You may opt for a refund.  All refunds will be handled by Schoodic Institute and returned by check.  Refunds will be given due to inclement weather only, if the trip is cancelled by Schoodic Institute and you opt to not participate in either a future date or the land-based birding option.     Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event? It is not necessary to bring a print version, we will have participant names on hand.  You may wish to print out as a reminder of your menu choices.   Is my registration fee or ticket transferrable?
