Intro to Vermiculture and Make Your Own Worm Bin!

Join us for an evening of fun as we learn how to make our own vermicompost bin! Composting with worms is a simple process that diverts food waste from landfills, while producing super-enriched soil amendment.  Come learn not only the basics about worms and worm composting, but also the science behind successfully gardening with worm products.  Participants in this workshop will leave with an 18-gallon Rubbermaid bin which they have prepared with bedding and food for the worms, as well as ½ pound of red wigglers.  Everything will be complete for a successful and operating worm bin to be maintained at home by the participant. Mary Ann Smith, after spending 20 years teaching high school math in Haywood County, decided to expand her avid interest in gardening to include worm farming. For the past five years, Mary Ann has supplied composting worms, vermicompost, worm tea and organically grown produce to various regional businesses and farmers' markets. She has been a speaker at the Organic Growers’ School and at Asheville GreenWorks workshops and been featured in the Smoky Mountain News and other publications. Mary Ann's passion is to provide education as well as products which support sustainable farming practices in the local community.
