      Intro to Eco Printing

Did you know that leaves, flowers, seeds, and other plant materials leave behind a unique “signature” when exposed to water and heat? If you’ve ever wanted to explore the wonders of “eco printing”—the all-natural process of transferring plant and leaf images onto fabric—this entry-level workshop is for you!

Patricia Spangler has been natural dying and eco printing for a number of years. Join her as she explains the basics of eco printing and shows you how to lay out and design an eco print, bundle and process materials, and pre- and post-mordant fabric. As a final project, you will print your own silk scarf!

Patricia will provide silk for sampling, tannins, mordants, modifiers/facilitators, and (1) 14" x 72" 8mm silk scarf per student. A list of reliable plants for eco printing will be distributed in case students want to bring additional plant materials.
