      David Brooks Lecture

      New York Times columnist David Brooks, a leading analyst of American culture and politics, will give a keynote Founders Day lecture on Thursday, October 12 at 7 p.m. This ticketed event is free to the public and doors open at 6 p.m. This event was rescheduled from the original date of September 12 due to the uncertainty of the path of Hurricane Irma.  This event, which will be held in the Wilma M. Sherrill Center's Kimmel Arena on campus, is supported by The David and Lin Brown Visionary Lecture Series and The Van Winkle Law Firm Public Policy Lectures and is part of the university’s 90th anniversary celebration. UNC Asheville’s Kimmel Arena seats approximately 2,300 people for lecture events. As per security protocol, backpacks are not allowed in Kimmel Arena and bags will be checked at the door. No outside food and drink are allowed. Due to the uncertainty of the path of Hurricane Irma. Western North Carolina could receive significant rain and wind on Tuesday, September 12 that could impact air travel and road conditions. What time do doors open to the Kimmel Arena? Kimmel Arena doors for the lecture will open to the public at 6 p.m. What time does the lecture begin? The lecture will begin at 7 p.m. What time will the lecture end? The lecture will last approximately one hour. How much do tickets cost to attend the lecture? Tickets are free and there is no cost to attend the lecture. What are my parking options for getting to and from the event? Parking is available in the adjacent campus parking lots. For more information about parking, including accessible routes and parking, see the campus map, available online for viewing and downloading. Accessible parking is available in the Sherrill Center Parking Deck (P9) with stair-free access to the arena. What can I bring into the event? Yes, water and snacks will be available for purchase inside the Kimmel Arena. Will books be available for purchase? Yes, books and other university merchandise will be available for purchase in Rocky's Doghouse in Kimmel Arena.  Will there be a book signing? Yes, Mr. Brooks will sign books after the lecture.  Is the Kimmel Arena accessible for people with mobility disabilities? While the Kimmel Arena is a stadium-seated location, there is elevator access to the floor level for people with mobility disabilities. In addition, seating is reserved for people with mobility disabilities. Accessible parking is available in the Sherrill Center Parking Deck (P9) with stair-free access to the arena.
