      Kauai Voices Presents Motown! Waimea

KAUAI VOICES PRESENTS MOTOWN! The music of Michigans Motor City makes its debut on Kauai when Kauai Voices the islands highly popular 40+member auditioned choral ensemble sings MOTOWN! Celebrating some of the greatest music ever created in the United States, Kauai Voices will present four concerts in venues across the island over two weekends: June 20 and 21 in Lihue, June 27 in Kilauea and June 28 in Waimea. Started in 1959 in Detroit, Michigan, by Berry Gordy, Jr., with $800 borrowed from family, the Motown label quickly became the most successful proponent of the Motown Sound a style of highly danceable soul music with mainstream pop appeal. Motown achieved phenomenal crossover success and played an important role in the racial integration of popular music by showcasing such talented artists as The Supremes, The Temptations, The Four Tops, Gladys Knight and the Pips, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, The Jackson 5, among others, said Randy Leonard, artistic director of Kauai Voices. Motown presented a blend of pop, rhythm and blues, rock and soul, crossed previously established lines and produced such timeless songs as River Deep, Mountain High, Ill Be There, Signed, Sealed, Delivered, Im Yours, Superstition, I Heard It Through The Grapevine, Aint No Mountain High Enough, You Keep Me Hanging On and many more. Our amazing choir, soloists, and musicians will bring you back in time with these treasured hits, stated Leonard, who noted that Motown was the most successful soul music label, achieving 79 records in the top ten of Billboards Hot 100 between 1960 and 1969. The energy of this music is undeniable, enthused Leonard. We will have you dancing in your seats or on your feet! Audiences can drive down Motowns memory lane with a choice of four performances, presented over two weekends in June. Lihue shows will be held at the Kauai Community College Performing Arts Center on Saturday, June 20 at 7 PM and Sunday, June 21 at 3 PM. The following weekend, concerts will be held in Kilauea at Anaina Hou Porter Pavilion on Saturday, June 27 at 6 PM, as well as in Waimea at the historic Waimea Theatre on Sunday, June 28 at 3 PM. Kauai Voices, a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization founded in 2011, produces two seasons of concerts each year. The shows feature a different theme each season with many different styles and genres of music. The group typically is accompanied by piano, an instrumental ensemble, and also highlights soloists, duets, and small vocal groups.
