Fine Woodwork Show & Silent Auction

Berkshire Woodworkers Guild Fine Woodwork Show and Silent Auction

A fine woodwork show featuring designs by professional woodworkers from the Berkshires and neighboring towns in New York and Connecticut.

Silent auction to benefit the Berkshire Woodworkers Guild Scholarship Fund, which supports individuals who aspire to make woodworking, architecture, or a related field their professional goal.

Throughout the weekend, BWG members will demonstrate various woodworking techniques including turning, sharpening techniques, finials turning and a sawmill demonstration that highlights the utility and beauty of native wood.

Will and Amelia Conklin from Sky View Farm, Sheffield, MA will be onsite Saturday and Sunday, offering farm-raised pork sausages and grilled cheese sandwiches.

While at the Garden, visitors are encouraged to view Lucy’s Garden, a whimsical new topiary collection featuring nearly two dozen exotic creatures and other 'live' sculptures, and Shimmering Flowers, Nancy Lorenz's lacquer and bronze landscapes in the Center House Leonhardt Galleries.

The Berkshire Woodworkers Guild is a not-for-profit association of 51 professional and amateur woodworkers who live and work in Berkshire County, Massachusetts, Columbia County New York, and surrounding areas. Guild members share expertise, tools, and business opportunities, and promote awareness of the benefits and availability of custom woodworking.

The Guild represents a range of backgrounds and experience. Members include furniture makers, cabinetmakers, boat builders, sculptors, house builders, wood turners, luthiers, and suppliers of wood products. We practice and advocate for fine woodworking on a professional level and encourage woodworking as an enjoyable hobby.

We are interested in the work of others, in exchanging ideas and techniques, in learning more about woodworking, and in helping one another with advice on skills and materials. To encourage this, Guild members meet once a month in a member’s shop for a brief meeting followed by a demonstration of a technique, tool, or project. These meetings are a time for members to share ideas and learn new ways of approaching their craft. We are a supportive group, welcoming new members to join those who have been part of the Guild for many years.

For the past 21 years, the Guild hosts its Fine Woodwork Show at the Berkshire Botanical Garden in Stockbridge MA. Last year there were over 20 exhibitors from the Guild, displaying and selling their work to more than 1500 attendees. The 2019 show will be at the Berkshire Botanical Garden and this will be a wonderful time to see the Guild in action.

An important highlight of the show is the silent auction. Each member of the Guild contributes a piece with a value of greater than $50 to the auction, and one hundred percent of the auction’s proceeds directly support our scholarship fund. In 2018, the Guild had its most successful silent auction yet and was able to grant four $1,500 scholarships and one $500 scholarship to individuals beginning or continuing their education in fine woodworking. The selection process was difficult given the many highly qualified applicants. Each of the recipients will be attending a premier woodworking school.
