Technology and Society Series - June 25

“Critical Thinking about Technology, Science, and Engineering” with Dr. Janna Rosales Science, technology and engineering are forces that constantly change our realities. Do you look with great hope to how these fields can solve our problems, or do you worry about the new challenges they raise from unintended or unanticipated consequences? This session will present information to help you understand the ways that technology, science, and engineering are variously shaped by social, political, and cultural values that may not always be obvious to either the designers or users of devices, infrastructures, and systems. ABOUT THE SPEAKER:Dr. Janna Rosales teaches professionalism, ethics and communication in the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science. Her research interests explore the links between leadership development, civic engagement, mindfulness and dialogue in engineering education in order to address the question “How do we build a better engineer for the 21st Century?” She held the Chair for Teaching and Learning for the Faculty of Engineering from 2015-2017.
