      Julius Caesar

A cautionary tale about the unintended consequences of political assassination.

In this profoundly moving, breathtaking, and deeply human play, Shakespeare shows us a world on fire; a world turned upside down; a world where some of history’s most famous men commit horrific crimes in the name of patriotism and honor. "Julius Caesar" is a dazzling thrill ride of betrayal, violence, and perhaps most surprisingly—love. Artistic Director Ethan McSweeny makes his Blackfriars Playhouse debut with Shakespeare’s conspiratorial tale.

This fall at the Blackfriars Playhouse:
      Three plays,
      two authors,
      one great story.

Through "Julius Caesar" and "Antony and Cleopatra" by William Shakespeare and "Caesar and Cleopatra" by George Bernard Shaw, our 2019 Summer Festival Season traces the arc of Cleopatra’s journey from an impressionable young queen to a powerful world ruler, exploring where and how politics and personality intersect to alter the course of history.

The plays run in repertory with our world-premiere musical - THE WILLARD SUITCASES. This is ASC's first fully sung-through production. It features the repertory ensemble alongside Broadway legend Nancy Anderson. Tickets on sale now.
