Websites for Business Owners Nov 15th 2019

As a business owner, you'll know that it's important to have your own website to develop your marketing and increase your sales.  However, when you're on a low budget, how do you know who to trust when people recommend website developers or which online website building tools are actually worth using?  When I started my business (in Nov 2007), I was in the same position, it was through a conversation with a Google developer that I discovered it was possible to build your own website, which I thought was pretty cool!   I researched and tested many different website builders, the one most often recommended was Wordpress but I found it quite difficult to use. (Even after attending 2 training courses on how to use it!).  One of the biggest drawbacks is chosing the right theme for your business, it's difficult to see the range of functionality within the theme, and how pages look.  Once you've got a them, when you start to add plugins it can easily impact other elements of the theme and end up costing you a lot of money to pay a web developer to solve the errors and glitches in the code.  I've worked with clients who use wordpress, it usually takes much longer to update text image, video content on a website, and often costs a lot to make changes, because they need to pay an experienced developer to add pages, adjust designs of themese etc.  When I discovered Jimdo Websites I was delighted, it is really EASY to use, wihtout having any technical expertise.  Jimdo is a free do-it-yourself website builder. With absolutely no coding knowledge, anyone can create a stunning website using Jimdo's drag-and-drop interface.  It also has transparent pricing- simply use the free option, or Pro (for £60 per year) includes domain registration, hosting, wide range of templates & more products in the store function), or Business (£160 per year) for increased SEO functionality, email addresses, unlimited products in Store, and a wider selection of templates.   All of the Jimdo options gives a business owner all the functionality required in a website, you can embed videos, create slide shows, have a blog, have social media sharing and connection buttons, commenting, password protected areas, you can create links, change the style of text (font, colour size), change background colours. The free version includes advertisements for Jimdo, so it's better once you're happy with your website to upgrade to one of the paid versions so it doesn't confuse your customers.  Jimdo is a "What you see is what you get" content management system, so if you can use Microsoft Word, you can work out how to edit Jimdo.   Knowing the types of content you need for powerful marketing is a different aspect, and that's what this workshop covers too.  Does your business need a website which looks professional, but doesn't cost a fortune?  Makes it easy for your prospective customers to find your business?   Is easy for you easy for you to update, adapt and change as your business grows and develops?  Then Jimdo is exactly what you need. You can create your own Jimdo website, without attending this workshop, however attending this workshop will make sure you build it so it attracts the right customers, makes it easy for them to buy from you, makes it easy for your customers to find the information they need.  The workshop gives you the strategies to bring more people to your website, to convert more of your visitors into customers, and generally make more sales!   What other people say about working with Claire Boyles:  Kirsty had a Wordpress website for over a year before attending one of our workshops, this is what she said 10 days after launching her new Jimdo website:  This website workshop for business owners covers:  Online Marketing Strategy Choosing the best design template for your business model Writing powerful content for your ideal customers.  Choosing the best domain name (web address) Structure & usability of your website- what pages do you really need? SEO strategy - what you need to focus on to help your website get found by more people who want what your business offers.  How to install Google Analytics.   Connecting Social Media accounts  Installing a blog & what to create as blog posts Creating products for sale in your store.  At the end of this workshop you will have a published, functioning website that you are able to easily update yourself (without having to pay for each individual change you need).  You will be able to expand your website by adding pages and store products as your business grows.    The website workshop does not include your Jimdo subscription, this is so that you are in control of your own business assets.  If you want the Jimdo upgraded website you pay Jimdo directly for this (£60 per year including VAT, domain registration, email address, access to more templates and more SEO functionality, this includes everything most businesses will need).  I recently messaged one of the past attendees of the website workshop, to see if they could join us for a recent business event, this was her response:  Workshop Preparation:  Once you have booked your place you will receive the Preparation Guidebook, this provides you a list of things you can do to prepare for the workshop.  These include, setting up a free Google Analytics account (instructions included!), gathering any graphic design content (brand assets) you might have, any photographs or images you would like to use on your website, and any written information you want to publish on your website.   You'll also be given access to the Customer Psychological Profile questionnaire, which will help you get a deeper insight of your customers, what is important to them, personally and professionally.   This forms the foundations for your online marketing strategy, we want to ensure that the marketing content you publish on your website creates powerful psychological connection with your ideal customers.  This means they'll trust that you can deliver what you promise, and that what you offer is what they want/need.   On the day of the Website Workshop: You need to bring your laptop with you if you want to create your website on the day.  The workshop includes snacks, tea/coffee/water/soft drinks.   There are several local, independent cafes nearby which we recommend for lunch.   HATCH is our favourite, (on Holywell Hill) or slightly further away, the George Street Canteen is also great.  Free parking is available at Torrington Hall, the car park entrance is on Belmont Hill.   After the Website Workshop:  After the workshop you will be sent the Website Handbook, this will list all of the things the website workshop covers (so you have it as a future resource), plus some additional resources and tools to help you develop your online marketing. It also guides you on how to access ongoing support, from Jimdo directly (for technical issues), and there is also a Facebook Jimdo Coaching group, where you can ask any questions you might have about using Jimdo.  Their team will answer during office hours, and often other users will answer people's posts themselves.  Coaching: Also included in the Website Workshop is a coaching session, this gives you the opportunity to ask any questions you might have, especially when you're working on developing your website after the workshop.   The coaching session is extremely helpful as there is a lot of information covered in the workshop, it's unlikely that you will remember every single thing you were taught.  We have found that ongoing coaching helps people develop their skills and is more likely to produce ongoing business results.  Some examples of websites built by Claire Boyles (the course instructor): Testimonials from more happy customers:  "I've had more progress on developing my business this week - I've written content for the About page (and after some advice and help re-writing parts from Claire, it's live on the website!!! Thank you Claire!!). I also have my business name sorted and the design concept for my logo!!!! It's becoming so real now. I'm getting more excited with every success :) " Natalie Smith, Sidney, Australia  "Claire I wanted to say thank for for all the great ideas you have given me regarding my website design. The suggestions you made on how to make it more attractive to my niche, how to put my products forward in the best light, were Amazing. You have an innate sense of what works commercially, which when translated into a website design, changes a hobby/infosite into a business. Thanks you receive my highest recommendation"   Gordon Tredgold, one of the world's top Leadership experts (Contributor to Inc, Huffington Post etc) based in Florida (Originally and still a proud Yorkshire man!) "I would recommend that anyone starting a business should speak to Claire before the launch! Claire helped me to take a step back from my marketing plan and rethink my strategy. She also gave me excellent tips on how to reduce initial business costs. Claire is generous and genuinely interested in helping people." Janet Johnston Oger "I booked onto Claire’s course last year having been recommended to do so by associates of the PSA. This was a new venture for me and I wanted it to be as right as possible form the start. I was not looking for perfection as that is a fools target but to have it look good to the viewing world. Working with Clair was an absolute delight. Her enthusiasm and desire to help you is wonderful and her passion for her subject knows no bounds. I soon picked up how the mechanics of the website work and how to change things. Every time I came up with a “how about this” a quick chat with Claire got it sorted. I can’t imagine working with anyone else on my website as Claire has a great way of teaching regardless of ability. I now have a website that has yielded paying orders and has drawn people to me, what more could you want??"  Tony Silver
