      Shindig 2019

Kick summer into high gear by chillin' out at our annual Shindig! Sway to cool tunes, while you indulge in savory and sweet vegan treats. In addition to delectable bites from Cinnamon Snail, The Green Palate and more, there will be lots of vendors selling housewares, apparel, accessories and more! Enjoy plenty of up close and personal time with rescued farmed animals! There will be educational activities for the whole family, like a free yoga class, a raffle with cool prizes, and cooking demos for those who want to learn new kitchen tricks. And you won't want to miss the watermelon feeding for the pigs — we humans enjoy it almost as much! LIVE MUSIC: Five time Grammy Award winning musician Cindy Cashdollar brings her long-time friends and legendary artists Happy Traum and John Sebastian to this year's Shindig. Together they will perform a vast landscape of all things Americana including blues, folk and pop -- music that is world renowned and part of Woodstock music history. Don't miss this intimate jam session! GUEST SPEAKERS: Internationally-known activist Anita Krajnc launched the "Save" movement  in 2010 with the goal of building a grassroots animal justice movement by "bearing witness" near slaughterhouses. Spurred on by her arrest in 2015 for giving water to pigs, the "Save" movement now boasts over 1,000 groups around the world. While some focus on ending animal exploitation, others on improving human health, and still others on helping our environment, all "Save" organizations embrace a love-based community organizing approach and are powerful advocates for veganism. Michelle Carrera  is a queer Puerto Rican vegan food justice activist based in NYC. In 2014, she founded Chilis on Wheels which makes veganism accessible to communities in need through meal shares, food demos, clothing drives, and mentorship, and now has chapters all across the U.S. Michelle also started Casa Vegana de la Comunidad, a vegan sustainability house and microsanctuary, in Puerto Rico. She sits on the Board of Directors of The Microsanctuary Resource Center. Mariann Sullivan (moderator) is the co-host of the Our Hen House podcast and host of the Animal Law Podcast. She is also a lawyer and a lecturer in animal law at Columbia Law School. In addition to writing and speaking about animal law and animal rights, she previously taught courses in animal law and farmed animal law at NYU Law School, Lewis and Clark Law School and Cardozo Law School. Several handicapped-accessible parking spots are available on a first come, first served basis to those with a placard. Refund requests will be accepted through Thursday, July 18. Shindig is RAIN OR SHINE! Limited tickets are available and Shindig always sells out, so we recommend buying your tickets well in advance! Please bring your printed ticket to Shindig.
