Chick Corea Trilogy with Christian McBride and Brian Blade

presented in partnership with the Lensic Outpost is proud to work with the Lensic to present legendary pianist Chick Corea with his Grammy-winning acoustic trio featuring powerhouse bassist Christian McBride and drum master Brian Blade. Performing Corea classics, jazz standards and more, the trio earned two Grammy Awards for their 2014 landmark 3-CD set, Trilogy. Steve Leggett of AllMusic wrote about the new trio, "... the three have an uncanny connection, filling space with gorgeous and subtle phrasings, gliding through all manner of styles with a seemingly effortless elegance, grace, and freshness." Chick Corea has attained iconic status in music. A DownBeat Hall of Famer and NEA Jazz Master, as well as the fourth-most nominated artist in Grammy Awards history with 63 nods -and 22 wins, in addition to a number of Latin Grammys, he plays everything from straight-ahead jazz to avant-garde, bebop, jazz-rock fusion, children's songs, chamber and symphonic works and has touched an astonishing number of musical bases in his career since playing with the genre-shattering bands of Miles Davis in the late '60s and early '70s. Corea is more productive than ever and has been named Artist of the Year three times this decade in the DownBeat Readers Poll. He remains a tireless creative spirit, continually reinventing himself through his art. The New York Times called him "a luminary, ebullient and eternally youthful." Six-time Grammy Award winning jazz bassist Christian McBride has been described as fusing the fire and fury of a virtuoso with the depth and grounding of a seasoned journeyman. Powered by a relentless energy and a boundless love of swing, he plays everything from jazz to R&B, pop/rock to hip-hop/neo-soul, and classical music, and with his career now blazing into its third decade, he has become one of the most requested, most recorded, and most respected figures in the music world today. Drummer composer, bandleader and singer-songwriter Brian Blade has left his creative imprint on a wide swath of jazz and pop over the last 25 years. A player who "surrenders bodily to everything he plays," he has led his own group, The Fellowship Band since 1997 and has been a member of the Wayne Shorter Quartet since 2000. He has also accompanied Emmylou Harris, Beth Orton, and Rebecca Martin and recorded with Joni Mitchell, Ellis Marsalis, Herbie Hancock and Bob Dylan. Blade will also be appearing at the Outpost on Friday, November 15 with Steel House which also features pianist Ed Simon, and bassist Scott Colley.
