Stress & Emotional Regulation Workshop for Parent/Carers - Reading

Stress and emotional regulation workshop for Parent/Carers.   Date: Thursday 14th November 2019 Time: 9.30am - 2.30pm (light lunch included) Cost: £40 Location: Wokingham Waterside Centre   Gareth D Morewood is the Educational Advisor for Studio III (www.studio3.org). Since joining Studio III in January 2019, Gareth has been developing the use of The Low Arousal Approach* in educational settings. *The Low Arousal Approach is based on the notion that people with challenging behaviour often have trouble regulating their feelings and emotions. They often react to other people’s emotions by experiencing and expressing those same emotions. Human feelings and emotions are contagious, and most people learn to differentiate between their own and other people’s emotions early in life. However, some people struggle to make this distinction. They don’t know if an emotion they feel is their own or somebody else's. This can result in anger if somebody else is angry. The Low Arousal Approach is about creating a caring environment characterised by calm and positive expectations aiming to decrease stress and challenging behaviour. The methodology leans heavily on changing staff and parent’s thoughts and preconceptions, and on body language, physical distance and conflict evaluation.  Gareth has previously worked for 25 years in schools, the last 17 of which as SENCo in a fully inclusive large secondary in the North West. He has extensive experience in supporting schools, families and working directly with young people in the UK and abroad. We are delighted to be able to secure the services of Gareth, whose work has had significant impact for many families and young people over the last 25 years.   During this training, Gareth will be providing a range of bespoke sessions looking at stress, arousal and emotional regulation.   There are additional specifically tailored sessions for professionals and children/young people: Workshop for Children and Young People: Wednesday 13th November from 4.30pm - 7pm at Wokingham Waterside Centre.
