      Voices of the Silenced

"We realize the importance of our voice, when we are silenced." - Malala Yousafzai A thought-provoking new work by Kim André Arnesen representing overlooked voices in our society. For over a year, we worked with the composer to select texts by people from different cultures and periods who have discovered and used their own voice through poetry. Having a voice and being heard are two very different things, and this work encourages us to hear them, to believe them, and to support them. Each movement of the work represents a different community voice, for example an AIDS survivor living in New Hampshire, a refugee exiled in Spain, the father of a son with Down syndrome, and a person imprisoned for following the Bahá’í faith. Additionally, author Euan Tait was commissioned to write I am More Than You See, an originalpoem to complete the libretto.
